Donated by Nadine Plet, President of the French New Zealand Chamber of Commerce, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Arras
(An identical volume in French was donated to the Languages Dept)

The book highlights in particular, the stories of the New Zealand Tunnelling Company and the New Zealand Mining Corps who made a major contribution to the success of the allied forces in this battle. These 2 bodies of New Zealand soldiers came principally from a number of districts and provinces in New Zealand and also included a strong representation from a number of Iwi who formed the third group, namely the Maori Pioneer Battalion. Birkenhead College is in one of the districts who contributed to these 3 groups.
