Notes
First published: 2009.Summary: They passed throngs of people but no one stopped the boy or asked his name. He was a boy; his companions dogs. There was nothing to show that he was following, not leading; and everyone knows without thinking that a person with dogs is not lost. Romochka is four years old. Left alone in the apartment for three days, he is eventually cold and hungry enough to brave the streets. There he follows a yellow dog to her lair beneath a derelict church and, in the rich, smelly darkness, joins four puppies sucking at their mother's teats. So, in Eva Hornung's award-winning novel Dog Boy, a boy becomes a dog. But to be a dog -- a dog who is also a boy -- that proves to be a much harder thing. (Back cover)
